The Kraal Captivates Audiences at the South African State Theatre
The Kraal, a powerful new drama written and directed by Bongani Bennedict Masango, recently concluded its successful run at the Sibusiso Khwinana Theatre at the South African State Theatre.
Staged from 3–13 September 2026, the production featured our Amazing Talents Bongani Bennedict Masango and Zu in a compelling exploration of power, tradition and succession.
Set in 1990s KwaZulu-Natal, The Kraal follows a young law student who becomes entangled in a royal succession struggle. As questions of leadership, identity and responsibility come to the fore, the play examines the tension between personal ambition and cultural obligation.
With its rich historical setting and emotionally charged narrative, The Kraal offered audiences an engaging reflection on authority, heritage and the forces that shape a community during times of change.
The successful season marks an important moment for the production and its creative team. Following the response to its Pretoria run, The Kraal may return for a future season, giving more audiences the opportunity to experience this thought-provoking South African production.
