Biography
Wongama Bazi is a Johannesburg-based actor, writer, theatre director, and facilitator originally from the Eastern Cape. He is a 2025 graduate of the prestigious Market Theatre Laboratory. In 2025, Wongama was part of the Gold Ovation Award-winning Afropocalyps ensemble at the National Arts Festival, directed by Daniel Buckland. The same year, he performed in Hey Hillbrow Parade, also directed by Buckland. He further developed his performance practice through Lefifeng, where he was mentored by Billy Langa. Wongama’s work is rooted in bold storytelling and collaborative theatre-making, with a strong interest in socially conscious performance.
